Entertainment Weekly tournament pits Game of Thrones against other fandoms (UPDATED)

Entertainment Weekly’s Fanuary is a month-long celebration dedicated to pop culture fans and their fandoms. If you think Game of Thrones has one of the best around, now’s your chance to vote for it during Fanuary’s epic cross-fandom style tournament. The tournament groups pop culture fandoms into four categories: TV, movies, music, and digital influences (whatever that means).

The tournament kicks off with a round featuring 64 pieces of pop culture, with Game of Thrones matched up against Sherlock. Thrones is currently edging the BBC show out, but by a relatively slim margin. Be sure to get your vote in before January 5th, when the first round ends. If Thrones advances, it’ll take on the winner of a face-off between The Walking Dead and The X-Files.

In terms of overall votes, Harry Potter is the current leader—it’s outpacing its competitor, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, by an embarrassing amount of votes. Game of Thrones is ranked 26th, behind Teen Wolf and Survivor. Voting takes place each week until the champion is crowned early next month. If you think Thrones has a superior fandom to Sherlock, Teen Wolf, and Survivor, don’t forget to keep voting for it every week.

Lastly, if you consider yourself a Thrones mega fan, Entertainment Weekly has a couple of other Fanuary competitions you may want to check out, including best fanfiction, fan confession, and extreme fan. So if you have any Thrones-themed tattoos or rooms in your house, now’s your chance to show them off!

UPDATE: Game of Thrones won its battle with the BBC’s Sherlock, and is now facing off against The X-Files. At the moment of writing, the classic Fox series is besting Game of Thrones handily.

Maybe the news that The X-Files is returning the airwaves is giving the show a boost?

Voting on this round closes on January 12, which gives Game of Thrones plenty of time to close the gap. Head to Entertainment Weekly and make it happen!
