Rumor has it Union Square in New York City is facing a dragon invasion next week. With Game of Thrones Season 6 debuting in just over six weeks, HBO is revving up the promotional machine in earnest. To that end, it’s booked Union Square in New York City for a “Top Secret” event on March 15th, which coincides with the release of the Season 5 Bluray/DVD to the public. There aren’t a lot of details available, but it’s being referred to as a “dragon landing.”
According to the New York Post, the park service has confirmed that HBO requested the public square for the event.
A Parks Department spokesperson confirmed that the premium cable network applied for a special event permit on Feb. 22 for a day-long event next Tuesday, but declined to share any details.
I’m sure that Park Service spokesperson saw what happened to people who make the mistake of talking about Game of Thrones and wanted to protect their family.
Though the event is most likely going to happen (despite us knowing nothing of what it is) a vote by the community board to approve it has not yet taken place—it happens today.
Community Board 5 listed HBO’s request for a “‘Game of Thrones’ installation at Union Square Park to promote the release of the Season 5 DVD/Blu-Ray” in its online calendar. Its committee approved the request, and the full board is expected to vote on the matter Thursday.
I’m sure they’ve seen what Lannisters do to those who vote against them, and will do the right thing, for the safety of everyone involved.
The question is, what will the event entail? Will here there in fact be literal dragons? (Can we hope there are anyway?)
