George R.R. Martin to Interview Stephen King in Albuquerque

If you’re wondering what A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin has been up to lately, he’s presumably been busy typing away on his antiquated Wordstar 4.0, writing The Winds of Winter. The Bearded Bard has been quiet of late—he hasn’t written an entry personally on his Not a Blog since March 28, although a “minion” of his turned on in yesterday.

So, what could our Lord and Master be up to, hidden away in his Santa Fe, New Mexico home? Whatever it is, he’ll take a quick break to go to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he’ll interview the master of horror, Stephen King, who’s on a book tour for his latest novel, End of Watch. The Santa Fe New Mexican has the details:

"As an event director at event-organizer Bookworks tells it in a press release, she was dreaming up how she might hypothetically squeeze another iota of greatness out of a King visit to the Duke City and thought: “But what if we got George R.R. Martin to interview Stephen King?” Which was a good thought. As it turned out, Martin and King share an agent, and after Martin’s proposal to add a Cocteau stop to King’s tour couldn’t be logistically swung, Martin was invited to the Kiva event. And everyone who reads in the Land of Enchantment lived happily ever after."

By “a Cocteau stop,” the New Mexican means the Jean Cocteau Theater, a Santa Fe cinema Martin owns. Luckily, the drive from Santa Fe to Albuquerque is pretty short, so I’m sure he won’t miss out on much writing time, assuming that’s what he does when not on the road.

The Q&A will be held at the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 16. You can visit BookWorks to order your ticket, and the first 400 ticket holders will receive a signed copy of End of Watch (signed by King, not Martin). I don’t imagine it’ll touch on A Song of Ice and Fire, so if you go, don’t get your hopes up. But if you’re a fan of Stephen King, you might learn about The Dark Tower film which will finally hit theaters next year.
