We are now 10 days away from the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere, and diehard fans are starting to string together theories about what will happen to their favorite—and sometimes not-so-favorite—characters. The Week has shined a light on a new theory, brought to a frothy boil by Redditor Fallofmen10. If you don’t want to know potential SPOILERS, kindly turn away now.
Fallofmen10 asks an interesting question: will Sansa Stark and Davos Seaworth team up in Game of Thrones Season 6?
The question was inspired by two images, one from each of the two trailers we’ve gotten for Season 6. In the first trailer, we see Sansa, looking quite posh, almost as if she’s had a chance to have a bath, don a new black dress and furs, and get her hair did.
The next photo is of Davos from the second trailer. It looks like he’s standing in the same room—notice the chandelier behind both of their heads. Also notice the similar coloring, and the lighting—light seems to be coming in from a bank of high windows.
So the theory here is that Sansa and Davos will meet at some point in the season. But where do they meet? Well, we know that Davos is at Castle Black at the beginning of Season 6. Given that Sansa knows Jon Snow is now Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch (she wouldn’t have gotten news of his death yet), she might make for the castle after getting safely away from Winterfell, probably with Brienne’s help.
Castle Black contains a room called the Shieldhall, where the knighted men of the Night’s Watch hang their shields along the wall. Notice the shield behind Davos’ head. It seems to be a bear, the sigil of the Mormonts of Bear Island. It may be Lord Commander Jeor Mormont’s. When a knight dies, his shield is removed and burned with the knight, but Lord Commander Mormont’s body was never returned to Castle Black, so his shield might still be hanging there.
It’s also possible that they’re meeting elsewhere, possibly at the seat of House Mormont, or wherever Sansa gets herself after escaping from Ramsay. As in A Dance with Dragons, Davos may be out canvasing Northern lords. (But for who? And for what reason? Many questions remain.) If he runs into Sansa during his trip, it could be an interesting meeting indeed. Assuming Davos is still trying to unseat the Boltons from Winterfell, a trueborn Stark heir could make a powerful ally.
Game of Thrones Season 6 better hurry and get here, because my tinfoil hat is too hot to wear at the moment.
