Cast roundup: Julian Glover on playing Pycelle, the Mountain drops Season 6 hints, and more

Let’s catch up with a bunch of Game of Thrones cast members and the knowledge they’re dropping around the internet.

First up, Julian Glover talked to Express about playing Grand Maester Pycelle, one of the few minor characters to have appeared in every single season of Game of Thrones so far. By the sound of it, the 81-year-old Glover is still enjoying the experience. “I love going in,” he said. “It’s not very comfortable for me – I have to wear this beard and not very comfortable costume. But the people there are such good people, they really are serious film makers, you feel like you’re part of something significant.”

"The producers and the writers, who are the governors, insist on absolute perfection from the very beginning. You might go 23 takes! And they can do that now because they don’t have to worry about how much film is in the camera. They started like that on day one and they’re still doing it. And thats one of the reasons for the success of the series."

Not everything is to his liking—while he praises the show as “brave” for being willing to kill off major characters, there’s one death he would have preferred go down slightly differently. “When they killed off Joffrey, it wasn’t bloody enough for me,” he said. “I really wanted to see him squirm! And I was in the scene it happened! I thought, ‘oh well… that’s okay, he didn’t enjoy that very much’, but I wanted more.” I imagine he’s not completely alone there.

Elsewhere, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (the Mountain) is excitedly teasing the next episode of Season 6. This Instagram post of his is cryptic, but Game of Thrones fans are nothing if not happy to read into things.

What’s under the helmet indeed? Might we see just what Qyburn did to the Mountain soon?

Also, here’s Björnsson, who is very tall, running with his tiny Pomeranian puppy, Ástríkur. Daw.

This past Sunday, Lena Headey made a surprise appearance on the season finale of Rupaul’s Drag Race, the reality show where drag queens compete to see who’s the best drag queen. I wouldn’t have expected Lena Headey to turn up there, but I probably should have, because she was a guest judge on the show back in its sixth season. It seems she’s a fan. Here’s the clip of her from the Season 8 finale—she’s giving some encouragement to top 3 finisher Naomi Smalls, who ended up losing the crown to Bob the Drag Queen.

“Cersei that walk.” It just works!

As long as we’re keeping it loose, here’s Sophie Turner visiting an easy-breezy talk show called Tipsy Talk. She talks about X-Men Apocalypse, her personal life, and of course, Game of Thrones Season 6. And she does it all a little buzzed.
