No, Kit Harington isn’t getting his own Game of Thrones spin-off

Despite being put under the microscope by the Game of Thrones fanbase during the off-season, and then making his triumphant return two episodes into Season 6, Kit Harington and Jon Snow are still getting plenty of attention. Several outlets, including The Express, reported this past week that Kit Harrington had begun negotiating with HBO regarding a possible Game of Thrones spinoff series to air once the show is over. Representatives for Harrington shot down the rumor stating that there is “zero truth to this.

It’s only natural that people would be thinking about spinoff or prequel series, considering that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have said that, after Season 6 is over, there are roughly 13 more episodes to film, episodes that would be spread out over Seasons 7 and 8. In other words, there’s not much Game of Thrones left, and despite the fact that the show has become a ratings juggernaut for the network, president Michael Lombardo has said that there are currently no plans for either a sequel or prequel. “If that were to happen it would have to come from [Benioff and Weiss] really feeling something, or [author George R.R. Martin] really feeling that it was the right thing to do,” he said.

Benioff and Weiss have also said that they aren’t thinking about sequels, although George R.R. Martin thinks one is possible. “There is certainly no lack of material,” he told EW last month. He’s right. If it wanted to, HBO could probably film prequel series based off Martin’s already completed material for the next 15-20 years (Robert’s Rebellion anyone?), but a sequel series would be much harder to pull off, as Martin has yet to complete the current novel series.

In any case, there’s no Jon Snow spinoff in the works. He has a while to go before he can starting thinking about that stuff.
