Valar Morghulis: Who’s most likely to die in “Blood of My Blood?”

Valar morghulis: All men (and women) must die. But when?

Welcome to a weekly column where we rank who is most likely to die in each coming episode of Game of Thrones of Season 6. If we can stop crying for a few moments over the death of a beloved character, we might actually manage to get this list done.

Before we dive into “Blood of My Blood” let’s take a look back at the characters we got right in “The Door.”

Unless you are the Three-Eyed Raven, look away. Spoilers follow below.

“Three Eyed Raven: 35% It may not be this episode, but the Three-Eyed Raven is likely not long for this world. How many TV shows or movies have you seen where the mentor retires quietly to the country while the student takes on the great evil? Think Luke/Yoda/Obi-Wan, Harry Potter/Dumbledore, or Spider-Man/Uncle Ben.”

Just for full transparency, while spoilers were readily available in advance of this past Sunday’s episode, this author did not read/view them. That being said, it seemed fairly obvious that the Three-Eyed Raven would not last much longer, as it was necessary for Bran’s growth, but even we did not see it coming this quickly. Max van Sydow brought gravity to what could have been a silly character, and we will miss that. We only wish the show would have dived a little bit deeper into the Three-Eyed Raven’s backstory.

“Hodor: Hodor% Hodor.”

Okay guys, this one seriously breaks our heart. Not only did the faithful manservant Hodor (Kristian Nairn) meet his end in this episode protecting Bran from a horde of wights, but we also learned that Hodor’s mental impairment was the direct result of Bran warging into Hodor’s mind in the past. We had correctly guessed that the Night’s King could break the barrier guarding the cave, which would obviously be bad news for everyone inside, but we never thought that meant Hodor would perish. Seriously Bran, the sacrifices everyone’s making for you better pay off.

Honorable Mention: Leaf and Summer also sacrificed themselves for the young Stark. Direwolves seem to be getting knocked off faster than we can count. There are only two left: Nymeria and Ghost. Sad face.

****Percentages refer to how likely the character is to die, not survive.****

1-10. Jory-Cassel-picking-fight-with-Jaime-Lannister surprised

You had, like, three scenes in Season 1. Why did you pick a fight with the Kingslayer? These are the characters we think most likely to die this week. We hope they all have their affairs in order.

1. Lady Crane: 90% We have a new number one for the first time in a few weeks, and it’s the actress playing Cersei Lannister in the play Arya watched. Although it might not be Arya that does the deed, the Faceless Men are notorious for always fulfilling contracts. Even if she seems like a nice lady.

2. Meera Reed: 85% We’re actually surprised that Meera survived last week, but I guess someone had to pull that sled. Bran has things to do yet, but how long can Meera last out in the cold with wights on her tail?

3. Loras Tyrell: 80% Ser Loras jumps one spot, based on the impending confrontation on the steps of the great Sept of Baelor. Someone has to die in that scrum, no?

4. Melisandre: 75% The Red Woman has to pay for her crimes at some point. Now that we know our heroes are going to spread out on a giant recruiting drive, who’s to say Davos won’t come across a certain burned-out Baratheon campsite on his way around the North?

5. Davos Seaworth: 50% Based on the trailers, we think Ser Davos has an extended role to play this season that will see him through to the end, but taking down the Red Woman, should it come to that, can’t be good for his health.

6. The High Sparrow: 50%. The High Sparrow holds steady here, as some sort of armed confrontation appears to be on tap for this week’s episode. How long can this guy talk his way out of things?

7. Septa Unella: 50% If it’s not the High Sparrow biting the bullet this week, the woman who likes to read at people could be a casualty.

8. High Priestess: 45% Now that Daenerys is moving out with her new khalasar, the old leader of the Dosh Khaleen might not take kindly to the new leadership. And Drogon is probably hungry.

9. Pycelle: 45% After occupying our top spot weeks, Pycelle takes a tumble, as it appears that the Lannisters are focused elsewhere. Still, the old man is not completely forgotten, we think.

10. Kevan Lannister: 45% Last we checked, Kevan Lannister was still Hand of the King, and those guys have short life spans. If Ser Kevan moves directly against the terrible twins, expect FrankenMountain to come knocking.

11-20. Wun-Wun-smashing-that-dude-into-the-wall surprised

When you shoot a giant with a crossbow, what do you think is going to happen? We wouldn’t be surprised if any of these people kick it soon.

11. The Waif: 40% So if things go south with Arya and The Faceless Men, as it appears likely to, we think Arya and The Waif will come to actual blows, no more wooden sticks. And when that happens, Lady Stark walks away victorious.

12. Rickon Stark: 35% Rickon has to stay near the top of this list as long as he remains in Ramsay Bolton’s clutches, even if it looks likely that Ramsay will hold on to him in an attempt to pull in Jon and Sansa. Ramsay is one crazy dude.

13. Lancel Lannister: 35% Lancel still remains the star witness in the case against Cersei, but has been curiously absent so far this season. We know he will show up to confront FrankenMountain one of these weeks, and that isn’t likely to end well.

14. Grey Worm: 30% Defending Meereen, even if a peace has been struck with those slaver dudes, seems like it could get dangerous very quickly. And with respect to Grey Worm’s new outfit, he’s not exactly walking around in full plate mail here.

15. Missandei: 30% Again, we don’t trust those slaver dudes anymore than Missandei does, so consider her to be a walking target. It’s also possible one of those freedmen takes the truce with the slavers rather badly. Either way, everyone in Meereen is surrounded by enemies.

16. Those Slaver Guys: 20% (Belicho Paenymion, Yezzan zo Qaqqaz, Razdak mo Eraz): 30% As much as we believe these guys to be treacherous, if they do try something, we don’t expect it to end well for them. Daenerys is headed to Meereen with lots and lots of reinforcements.

17. Yara Greyjoy: 30% The Greyjoy siblings made their power play for the Iron Islands last week, and failed. Uncle Euron isn’t likely to take kindly to Theon and Yara absconding with all those ships, either.

18. Theon Greyjoy: 30%. Out of the frying pan and into the fire for Theon. No sooner did he return to the Iron Islands than his Uncle Euron took the driftwood crown. Then it was back to sea so as to not be murdered by the new king.

19. Mace Tyrell: 25% The confrontation at the Sept of Baelor could escalate quickly, and we could easily see Mace riding off a cliff somewhere in the confusion.

20. Bronn: 25% Every week we don’t see Bronn, we wonder if Bronn met the same fate suffered by the male praying mantis at the hands of the female thanks to the Sand Snakes of Dorne.

21-30. Tywin-Lannister-sitting-on-the-toilet surprised.

It was surprising, but the way he treated his family had to come back and bite him sooner or later. If these characters died this week, we’d raise an eyebrow.

21. Bran Stark: 25% Last week we mentioned having our doubts about the ability of the cave to repel the Night’s King, and we were saddened to see we were right. Now? Bran is out in a blizzard with no one but Meera Reed to protect him. Not looking good.

22.  Dolorous Edd: 25%. Edd has to be the most unlikely candidate for Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch in history. Unfortunately, the last two Lord Commanders were killed by their own men, and that was before the White Walkers started marching on the Wall.

23. Petyr Baelish: 25% Littlefinger continues to climb that ladder he mentioned way back in the day, but not in the way he probably wanted. Last week, we were actually worried for a few seconds as Sansa did the one thing no one has ever been able to do; make Littlefinger squirm. He left that meeting with his head intact, but there’s a definite chink in his armor.

24. Jaqen H’ghar: 20%. Make no mistake: things are about to go down in the House of Black and White, and there are always casualties when a band of face changing assassins are involved.

25. Margaery Tyrell: 20% There appears to be a ruckus on the steps to the Sept of Baelor next episode, but we believe Tommen’s wife will survive, at least for this week.

26. Jon Snow: 15% Jon is about to embark on a dangerous recruiting mission before taking on Ramsay Bolton, and as we’ve seen, just because Jon dies doesn’t mean he’ll stay dead.

27. Tommen Baratheon: 15%. Tommen is being pulled in a hundred directions, which has to be wearing on the youngest Lannister’s little heart.

28. Qyburn: 10%. Qyburn does not appear to be in any immediate danger, but neither do a lot of people on this list. However, are we sure those little kids aren’t still working for their former master, Varys?

29. Jorah Mormont: 10% Ser Jorah looks like he’s about to embark on yet another cross-country journey, and our guess is the quest given to him by Daenerys will give the old knight a new purpose in life, however long that lasts.

30. Olenna Tyrell: 10% How long until the High Sparrow, or someone else, decides to take out the brains of House Tyrell?

31-40. Ned-Stark-getting-his-head-chopped-off surprised.

Everyone thought Ned Stark was the main character, right? It would be a major shock if anyone in this group died at this point in the story.

31. Jaime Lannister: 5%. Jaime looks ready to confront the High Sparrow this week, and this time he’s doing it with an army at his back. We say the Kingslayer is safe.

32. Cersei Lannister: 5%. Like her twin brother, Cersei seems rather safe in the Red Keep surrounded by Lannister guards and FrankenMountain. Unless someone can get in there without being seen?

33. Tormund Gianstbane: 5%. Tormund continues to send heart eye emojis to Brienne, and for no other reason we can’t see him buying it this week.

34. Wun Wun: 5%. He’s a giant.

35. Samwell Tarly: 5%. The last time Samwell saw his dad, Randyll Tarly, the elder threatened to kill the younger. So that’s gonna be an awkward dinner.

36. Varys: 5% Like the man that replaced him back in King’s Landing, Varys doesn’t appear to be in any immediate danger, but who knows in Meereen?

37. Ornela: 5% Ornela, the young khaleesi Daenerys befriended before burning down the Temple of the Dosh Khaleen, didn’t appear last week, but then again, Dany herself only had a quick scene. Still, we think Dany has found a new hand maiden, one who’s safe for now.

38. Daario Naharis: 5% Daenerys’ boy toy is back at his queen’s side, and this time with an army. It’s off to Meereen to…well, we don’t know exactly what they are going to do when they get back, but hopefully they don’t stay long.

39.  Sansa Stark: 4%. Sansa is clearly coming into her own. The fact that Littlefinger can still get into her head with the half-brother nonsense is troublesome, but Sansa has an army and protectors around her this time.

40. Gilly (And little Sam): 3%. Talk about an awkward homecoming. “Hey dad, I know you tried to kill me last time I was here, but meet my new girlfriend and our child. Married? No, dad, we aren’t married.” Seriously, bring on the awkward family dinner at Horn Hill.

41-50. Red-Wedding surprised

We would stake our life that these characters making it through this week.

41. Euron Greyjoy: 2% Euron won the Kingsmoot in a landslide, and now wants to sail across the world and try to woo our favorite dragon mother. We don’t see that happening, but we also don’t see Euron dying an episode after getting elected, either.

42. Kinarva: 2% After the knowledge bombs Kinarva was dropping on Mr. Know It All Varys last week, we feel safe in saying Kinarva would see any attempt on her life coming a long way off.

43. Brienne of Tarth: 2% Seriously, how bad ass did Brienne look standing behind Sansa just waiting for the order to cut down Littlefinger? Brienne is off to recruit Sansa’s great uncle Brynden Tully to the Stark cause, and seems safe for now.

44. Podrick Payne: 2% Podrick seems likely to accompany Brienne to the Riverlands, and appears safe for now as well.

45. Arya Stark: 2% Arya Stark looks to be headed for a conflict with the Faceless Men faster than any of us anticipated, but remains George R.R. Martin’s wife’s favorite character, as best we can tell. So we say Lady Stark remains alive.

46. Ramsay Bolton: 1%. Ramsay didn’t kill anyone last week, and seems unlikely to be in any real danger until Sansa and Jon show up at Winterfell’s doorstep.

47. Tyrion Lannister: 1%. Tyrion just brought some fire into the city in the form of Kinarva, but we say the smallest Lannister survives another week to continue his wardenship of Meereen.

48. Daenerys Targaryen: 1%. Daenerys has her army and is marching to a great slave city. Stop me if you’ve heard this one.
