Doctor Who: Sean Pertwee was Asked to be in Series Nine

We have seen him dress up as his father Jon Pertwee’s Doctor, and he has stated that he would love to appear on Doctor Who. Right now, the only reason as to why Sean Pertwee has not made an appearance seems to be timing, as he was asked to appear on Series Nine.

There are two things that we know when it comes to Sean Pertwee and a possible role on Doctor Who. First, he does not want to be a new incarnation of the Doctor in the future, as he feels that he would not be able to fill the shoes that his venerated father, Jon Pertwee, filled over forty years ago. Second, we know that he would love to be a part of the show in some aspect.

That second part almost happened. Last year, Pertwee was asked to make an appearance in Series Nine, but had to turn down the opportunity due to his commitment to Gotham, on which he plays a young Alfred. Given the popularity of the show, and his character, it is understandable that he would not want to disrupt his schedule there.

Yet, the call of Doctor Who still remains. Pertwee reiterated his desire to be a part of the show at some point, possibly even portraying his father’s incarnation of the Doctor in a future special. It is a part that we know he can pull off, as Sean has posted several uncanny and charismatic photos of himself in the Third Doctor’s costume. It would be a great way to bring another Classic Who Doctor to the revival of the program.

Pertwee’s reasons for wanting to come to Doctor Who are not just due to his enjoyment of the program. He stated that he wants to honor both his father and Roger Delgado, the original Master, who was one of his father’s closest friends. In paying homage to his father’s era, and if we dare dream, making an appearance in an episode with Missy or the Master, both legendary actors could be honored in more than one way.
