GIF From “The Winds of Winter” shows us what happens in the North tonight
We’re just a few hours away from the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale, and thank to a GIF posted by Sky Atlantic, we have a brief look at a scene from “The Winds of Winter.” If you wish to remain spoiler-free, then turn back now, as the rest of the post will contain SPOILERS.
The scene takes place in Winterfell’s hall. The GIF shows a large group of men raising their swords as Jon and Sansa sit at the head table.
Some fans think they see Brienne in there, but I can’t spot her. Anyone see her?
It’s nearly impossible to tell who the individual persons are from this GIF. Hopefully we’ll get more detail on who each of these guys are in the episode itself. As you can see, it looks like these men are raising their swords in triumph, possibly to swear fealty to either Jon or Sansa as the King or Queen in the North. If that’s the case, it’s a big deal. Once again, we may have an independent North run by a Stark (or Stark bastard) on our hands.
Redditor QueenNyotaUhura pinpointed Davos among the crowd:
So who will rule the North? Jon or Sansa? Each has their merits.
Jon:
- Is Ned Stark’s bastard son.
- Willingly joined and faithfully served in the Night’s Watch.
- Fought and defeated an invading army of wildlings.
- Was elected Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.
- Killed a White Walker.
- Was murdered by traitors and then rose from the dead to live again (possibly blessed by the Old Gods).
- Fought and defeated Ramsay Bolton.
Sansa:
- Is Ned Stark’s trueborn daughter.
- Convinced Littlefinger to bring the Knights of the Vale to the Battle of the Bastards, which turned the tide and won the battle for the Starks.
- Has more experience with political maneuvering than Jon.
In a medieval world ruled by men, I don’t think Sansa has much of a chance at being crowned Queen in the North, unless Jon just steps aside and gives her the crown himself. Then again, a woman may come before a bastard in the line of succession. I guess we’ll find out tonight.
