HBO confirms major Game of Thrones fan theory with official infographic

Despite HBO’s attempts to tighten up on spoilers this year, there have been a few hiccups. At one point, the costumes the actors wore in a behind-the-scenes video gave away a plot point for later in the season, and then there was that time an HBO affiliate accidentally released an episode early.

And the good times continue to roll. HBO’s Making Game of Thrones blog, which is the production’s official online diary for all things behind the scenes, has released an infographic that shows the relationships between several characters on the show, both alive and dead. And although “The Winds of Winter” connected some of the dots involving a certain character’s parentage, it did not answer all the questions. This infographic does.

Are you sure you’re ready to see the infographic? Okay, here it is:

Note the black “Parent” lines. There’s a straight black line between Lyanna Stark and Jon Snow. That’s what we learned in “The Winds of Winter” when Bran went back in time to revisit the Tower of Joy: Lyanna is Jon’s mother. But there’s a second a second black line that connects Jon Snow to Rhaegar Targaryen, the Mad King’s son and Daenerys Targaryen’s older brother. R+L=J confirmed.

Now, true, if you’ve paid attention to the show’s past seasons, you could have made this inference when watching “The Winds of Winter,” but it’s good to have official word.

The only other line involving Jon Snow, for the record, goes to Ned Stark. It is a line the key marks as “Guardian.”
