Celeb roundup: Sean Bean channels Ned Stark in new series, and more
By Dan Selcke
Sean Bean hasn’t appeared on Game of Thrones for five years, but his role as Ned Stark is still paying dividends. For example, it led to a new role in an E4 show called Wasted, where he plays…Sean Bean…but, Sean Bean as he would be if he were Ned Stark and Boromir. Maybe you should just watch the trailer.
So Wasted is about a group of nerdy friends. The main one, Morpheus, sees Sean Bean in hallucinations, and the venerated actor coaches him through life. Bean admitted that he “didn’t know what to think” when the role was offered to him. “My agent told me about it, and she said, ‘You’d better read it, because I can’t really explain it! It’s bizarre!’ And I was interested, and bemused.”
"It’s wonderful writing. Surreal and stupid and ludicrous. It’s absolutely hilarious, I really think it’s a cracker. The idea of playing myself, a character called Sean Bean – although I’m not playing myself, I’m playing a character I’ve played before – it’s really odd. But then I read it, and I just thought, ‘Oh wow, I want to do this, it’s right up my street’."
Sounds like it could be fun, and it has a couple advantages over the types of gigs Bean usually lands.
"It’s a lot more fun than killing people or getting killed. That can get a bit grim sometimes. It was good to get to do a bit of comedy. I had to play it straight, though. If you go looking for laughs, it’s not going to work. So the scenes with Danny [Kirrane] I just played very straight. That’s why we started giggling now and again, because we were taking ourselves very seriously."
In slighter news, Maisie Williams has dyed her hair blue. Everybody panic!

Honestly, it looks more black when I see it, but okay. It’s doubtful she’ll retain the color into Game of Thrones Season 7, but then again, the books do mention people on Essos who dye their hair all sorts of wacky colors. Perhaps Arya, master of disguise, is trying to blend in somewhere?
But no, I think she just dyed it for kicks. Have at it, Williams.
And finally, Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) was spotted keeping in shape for those grueling action scenes (or maybe just for himself, since Davos isn’t involved in many action scenes) by working out at Dublin-based SBG, which happens to be the same gym where UFC featherweight champion/catchphrase mastermind Conor McGregor trains. John Kavanagh, McGregor’s coach, posted a video of Cunningham practicing takedowns.
Now if Davos ever faces off against a White Walker in the ring, he’ll know how to handle it.
