At this point, it would seem as though there are not many places left where shows like Doctor Who and Sherlock would be able to find growth. Australia, meanwhile, could be that needed spot for further expansion.
The BBC may well be at a crossroads. With questions about the financial viability of the network, and with the British government looking to cut costs, the network needs to find new avenues to expand and find revenue. Of course, such beloved shows as Doctor Who and Sherlock are expected to be the vanguard of any such expansion.
One has to wonder, though, where else the BBC could expand to in order to find that extra money to keep their budget from being gutted. With the popularity of some of their shows, one would have to think that there are few places for the BBC to see increases in viewership. They have already expanded in South America, and few places are outside of their reach.

That increase in revenue may, however, come from a place that the BBC is already entrenched. Using shows like Doctor Who and Sherlock, BBC Worldwide chief executive Tim Davie stated that he feels that Australia will be a place that the network will continue to grow. As the Australia and New Zealand branch of the BBC had a profit of $33.1 million, and increased revenue by approximately $5 million in the past year, those hopes may be a reality.
Of course, it helps that there is a bit of buzz around both shows currently. Sherlock is coming back next year, with the new season being eagerly awaited by fans worldwide. On Doctor Who, we have the new companion, and the upcoming changes that will happen for Series Eleven, causing a lot of speculation and excitement. Add in the excellence of Series Nine, and there is quite a bit of hope that the new season will be just as stellar.
