While he may not be returning to Doctor Who any time soon, David Tennant will be reprising his role as the Tenth Doctor on Family Guy.
Perhaps more than any other actor in the revival of Doctor Who, fans have clamoured for the return of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. As perhaps the second most popular Doctor ever, potentially trailing only Tom Baker, his return during the 50th Anniversary Special only served to whet our appetite for more appearances.
And now, fans of the Tenth Doctor are going to get their wish… sort of. David Tennant will be reprising his role as the Doctor, although it will not be on Doctor Who. Instead, he will be lending his voice to Family Guy, in a segment called ‘Doctor Who farted,’ spoofing various science fiction shows.
The cutaway is currently able to be viewed online as part of a compilation of clips that was first shown at San Diego Comic-Con this year.
The two shows actually do have a history. Prior to Tennant’s appearance, Family Guy occasionally made Doctor Who references, but never got one of the actors to voice their own character. There is also the fan created parody web series Doctor Stew.

While this may seem like a crass concept to associate with Doctor Who, let’s be honest — we really should not have expected much different from Family Guy. Given the level of humour, turning the name Doctor Who into a fart joke is pretty much what should have been anticipated. Yet, there is still a great deal of potential for this aside, even though Tennant may not have more than a brief cameo in a cutaway. It also would not be the first time that Doctor Who has dealt with flatulence — as the most infamous example, the episodes involving the Slitheen were largely an extended fart joke.
Considering the silliness of Doctor Who, mixed with its tendency to sometimes take itself too seriously, it sets itself up well for programs like Family Guy to make jokes at its expense.
