Doctor Who: A Baseless Rumor About Peter Capaldi
By David Hill
What is the best thing to do when things are quiet surrounding Doctor Who? Apparently, that would be to make up news, like the latest rumor that Peter Capaldi is definitely on board for Series Eleven.
Once again, another rumor about Doctor Who is spreading like wildfire. Based on Steven Moffat’s statement that he does not anticipate writing Capaldi’s regeneration before leaving the show, it is being considered by the internet to be carved in stone that the Twelfth Doctor will be a part of Series Eleven.

That is all well and good, but there is one thing to consider here — Capaldi himself has yet to say what he is going to do. In fact, we even know that he was offered the chance to stay on for Series Eleven before filming began for Series Ten, but he has refused to decide one way or the other.

Yet, this doesn’t stop the conflicting ideas that Capaldi is either definitely leaving, or, now, definitely staying, from becoming accepted. Yes, we would love to see Capaldi remain on Doctor Who for Chris Chibnall’s first season and beyond (Twelve in Series Twelve has a nice ring to it), but he needs to say that he will do so before we can go reporting it as fact.
As fans, we need to employ patience. After all, Capaldi would understand as well as anyone that this matter is not to be taken lightly, given his lifelong fandom. That respect for the role is a reason why Capaldi taking his time to make this decision. He has other interests that he may want to pursue, and being the Doctor is a full time job. Does he want to be the next Tom Baker and potentially spend seven years in the role, or does he want to leave sooner, and take the time to explore other avenues?
