Doctor Who and Beyond: Some Actors Want to Return, Others Do Not

While Eve Myles would love for Torchwood to return to television so that she may again play Gwen Cooper, Joivan Wade would enjoy reprising Rigsy on either Doctor Who or Class. Jenna Coleman, however, does not want to return to the Whoniverse at this time.

Last month, John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) revealed that he has been in talks for new episodes of Torchwood to be produced for television. Now, during a recent interview with Thomas Ling of Radio Times, Barrowman’s co-star Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) expressed that she also would love for this to happen. When asked if she would want to be a part of the show’s return, she replied,

"“Of course I would! I mean, when do you get the chance to play Gwen Cooper as an actor? It’s a gift from Russell T Davies to me, which I’m very honoured about.”"

If it were about to happen, however, she “couldn’t possibly say” due to “the consequences.”

"“Well, a true Torchwood agent wouldn’t give up the secret that easily, would they?”"

In any case, being a part of the successful Big Finish Torchwood audio plays has been an “amazing” experience for her, and she delights at the “astonishing response to them.”

In a recent interview with Morgan Jeffery of Digital Spy, Joivan Wade states that, while he has “no idea if Rigsy will return,” he would love for the character to make a comeback on Doctor Who.

"“I didn’t know I’d come back when I did the first one in series eight,” the actor said. “But I’d be up for it. I love Doctor Who, it’s wicked.”"

He would also be interested in guest starring on Class.

"“You never know,” grinned Wade. “I might have to text my agent now!”"

Joivan is impressed with the dedication of Doctor Who fans. He notes that he receives more fan mail for this program than any other. His experience working on Doctor Who has influenced him to not only delve into the viewing of past episodes, but also explore other science fiction franchises.

More from Winter is Coming

As for Jenna Coleman, in an interview with Gerard Gilbert of The Independent, she makes it clear that there are no plans for her to return to Doctor Who. She explains that it would not be appropriate considering the recentness of her departure from the show. She does not “want to unpick” how Steven Moffat wrote her exit “just for sake of popping up” because she is “proud and happy” with how it all went down. She also points out that, despite still having her TARDIS key, the Doctor does not remember who she is.
