Not only have details been scant in regards to Class, but many aspect surrounding the recent production of Doctor Who have been vague, as well — particularly with the Christmas Special. Could the two be connected?
This year’s filming for Class has recently wrapped. One would think that the BBC would want it to be successful. After all, as they are cutting budgets and trying to find new sources of revenue, a spin-off of the popular Doctor Who would seem to be the perfect way to increase the bottom line. Yet, there has been a curious amount of silence regarding the show, and any details surrounding it.
The same could be said for Doctor Who in some ways — particularly when it comes to the Christmas special — in regards to a lack of detail. We know that it’s happening, and we’re fairly certain that Nardole is involved somewhat, but that is pretty much it. Why the silence there?

Well, Paul Jones at Radio Times has a potential answer for that, theorising that this year’s Christmas special might be a crossover with Class. It would make sense; after all, rumours have persisted that Peter Capaldi will be appearing on the spin-off as the Twelfth Doctor. What better way for him to make an appearance than in a crossover, and what better time than during the holidays?
Doing so would also offer a sense of legitimacy to Class. There are still fans of Doctor Who who are resistant to having a spin-off set in Coal Hill School, perhaps expecting the show to be the DeGrassi of the Whoniverse. By bringing in the Doctor, and having the new cast in a Doctor Who episode, this could add to the fanbase of Class.
It also helps that both shows have Mr Armitage.
Let’s face it – the BBC needs Class to perform well. In fact, it would not be surprising if they wanted the show to be more than a one time mini-series, potentially being set up as an ongoing series in its own right. By bringing in the Doctor, and tying the show into Doctor Who, they may well be able to convince the network to add additional seasons.
