Food has quite a history on Doctor Who, from Jelly Babies to the still peculiar fish fingers and custard. As such, the biggest surprise about the Doctor Who Cookbook is why it took so long for the BBC to release one.
There are times when watching Doctor Who is a bit of a hunger inducing experience. Be it the Fourth Doctor offering Jelly Babies to virtually everyone he met, or the Eleventh Doctor enjoying fish fingers and custard, and everything in between, the food on the show can certainly make one crave a snack of their own. That is one positive for commercial breaks, at least.
Now, for those with culinary talent beyond microwaving a burrito (that takes me out of consideration) there is something to help satisfy that sweet tooth. Partnering with the BBC, Joanna Farrow has created Doctor Who: The Official Cookbook, featuring 40 easy to make dishes, all of which give a nod to our favorite show.

Naturally, some classic dishes, such as fish fingers and custard, made the cut. But there are other dishes that have been given a Whovian makeover, such as the impressive gingerbread TARDIS. For those less ambitious, but still looking for a creative way to show your fandom, there are even instructions on how to decorate cookies to represent your favorite Time Lord.
This is not the first Doctor Who cookbook in existence. In 1985, The Doctor Who Cookbook by Gary Downie was released. In 2012, Dining With The Doctor: The Unauthorized Whovian Cookbook by Chris-Rachael Oseland was released. Dining With The Doctor: Regenerated will be out soon.
The only question is why the BBC has not released one before now? There have been plenty of official Doctor Who related items, from plush dolls to coloring books, over the years. Why not a cookbook? Ah well, better late than never.
