This past weekend, Geekinomicon at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City was host to the official celebration commemorating the 20th anniversary of Doctor Who: The Movie. Local artist Jerry Bennett was a featured guest at the convention. In an interview with Matthew Price of News OK, Bennett discussed comic books, conventions, and Doctor Who. He is happy to see that comic books are currently accepted in popular culture more than ever, and notes that conventions have played a part in making this happen due to exposure of artists.
Geekinomicon approached Bennett to create “to create original artwork as part of their promotion to feature the 20th anniversary reunion of” Doctor Who: The Movie. And so, he created what he considers to be “a really fun piece.”
And so it is…

The reunion was the first time since Doctor Who: The Movie premiered on television in 1996 that people who worked in front of and behind the camera have gathered publically in recognition of the movie. Special guests were reported to include actors Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Eric Roberts, Daphne Ashbrook, Yee Jee Tso, Jeremy Radick, writer Matthew Jacobs, and director Geoffrey Sax. They even presented a live commentary along with a screening. To make things even cooler, the TARDIS console used in the movie was on display.
