Doctor Who: Matt Lucas as Nardole Likely in 2016 Christmas Special

We are another step closer to confirming Matt Lucas’ appearance as Nardole in the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special.

Earlier today, we shared an article discussing Mark Gatiss’ praise for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special. Lately, some new speculation about the episode has been circling the internet. While Huw Fullerton of Radio Times has hypothesized that the unusual shooting schedule this year may mean that Pearl Mackie will appear as Bill in the Christmas special, there is stronger evidence that suggests the likelihood that Matt Lucas will be in it as Nardole. Of course, we all previously figured that this would probably be the case.

To start, while it is not an official confirmation, there is the following on-set tweet from fan Lucie Mayer:

Since showrunner Steven Moffat told BBC Newsbeat last week that work had just begun on the Christmas special, if this is still ongoing, it makes sense to suppose from these pictures that Lucas is involved…  although, he is not shown in costume, so perhaps not.

This whole “Are they, aren’t they?” matter is understandable for such a popular program, yet still terribly silly. The general level of minutiae of the scrutiny surrounding both the 2016 Christmas special and Series Ten has gotten quite out of hand. While it keeps many entertainment writers in a job in the off season, it can get rather exhausting.
