And the best quote from Game of Thrones Season 6 is…

…from Lyanna Mormont, naturally.

"The north remembers. We know no king but the king in the North whose name is Stark. I don’t care if he’s a bastard. Ned Stark’s blood runs through his veins. He’s my king from this day until his last day."

Lyanna won this one handily. Her vow of fealty earned 16% of the vote, more than double its nearest competitor. Here ye, hear ye. Here are the full results:

I won’t call this a complete surprise, but the margin of victory is a bit of a shock. With just over 7% of the vote, Tyrion’s oft-quoted bon mot about his unique skill set (“I drink and I know things.”) came in a distant second. Tyrion’s quote was used heavily in the Season 6 teasers and is printed on many a tee-shirt, so it seemed like a natural choice for the top spot.

Still, actor Bella Ramsay spit fire every moment she was on screen, and voters notced. If anything, she might have deserved more recognition, as commenter Bandit77 summed up:

"I wish Lyanna Mormont’s stare qualified as a quote. I vote for the two of her others and Davos’ declaration of love for Shireen, anyway!"

Indeed, her glare during the Jon-Ramsay parley in “Battle of the Bastards” was a thing to behold. Commenter LadyStark also raved about Lyanna, in poetic terms:

"Lyanna Mormont’s“The North Remembers”stands out to me!The little bear is awesome!"

Nonetheless, plenty of Tyrion lines received votes. He’s a talkative guy, after all. (His plea that Rheagal and Viserion not “eat the help” and his speech to Daenerys in “The Winds of Winter” were both popular.) But perhaps the the plethora of Tyrion quotes on offer split the vote, similar to what happened with the Game of Thrones actors nominated for Emmys. Commenter Meereen weighed in on their favorite:

"The scene with Tyrion and the dragons in the dungeon was so special. We didn’t know if Tyrion would be successful like a Targaryen or be toast like Quentyn! I was so nervous and his line about “don’t eat the help” was awesome."

That was my favorite Tyrion line as well, as actor Peter Dinklage paired it with a convincing show of awe and wonder at seeing dragons up close. Dinklage, as usual, sells the hell out of his scenes, despite most likely acting opposite a couple of tennis balls on sticks.

Season 6 was chock-full of fantastic dialogue. BooJam picked singled out one of the many good lines from Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham):

"Only Liam Cunningham’s gravitas could have delivered:The real war is between the living and the dead. And the dead are coming."

If Liam Cunningham is nominated for something, he probably has my vote. I especially enjoyed his delivery when Davos confronted Melisandre over the death of Shireen in “The Winds of Winter.”

Speaking of “The Winds of Winter,” the exchange Jon and Sansa shared on the ramparts of Winterfell was understated, but not lost on commenter r-hard,

"Best: Sansa: “Winter is here.” Jon: “Well, father always promised, didn’t he?”Jon’s answer was so emotional for me."

It was emotional for all of us, I think.

And what about Lady Olenna? Diana Rigg usually has her fair share of memorable lines, but her dig on Cersei was one her better ones, at least according to loganblue:

"I chose Olenna telling Cersei ” I wonder if your the worst person I’ve ever met……” Cersei had nothing to say back after Olenna proceeded to tear her down with that one."

Cersei was uncharacteristically silent after that zinger, but maybe she knew that payback was in the pipeline.

Either way, last but not least, we have the most heartbreaking line of Season 6, one that received over a hundred votes, Meera Reed’s “Hold the door!” Let’s have a moment of silence for our dearly departed Hodor.

So what say you, friends? Were you surprised by Lyanna Mormont’s win? Did anything deserve more votes? Have at it.
