Five or Six Seasons of new HBO hit ‘Westworld’ Planned

Westworld star James Marsden says HBO plans to have at least five or six seasons of the new series.

HBO put a lot of faith into Westworld before the series even premiered. We knew the show had an alleged $100 million dollar budget, and now thanks to Westworld star James Marsden we know HBO plans for the series to last at least five or six seasons.

Here’s what Marsden told Cinema Blend on how long Westworld might last:

"It wasn’t about getting the first 10 done, it was about mapping out what the next 5 or 6 years are going to be. We wanted everything in line so that when the very last episode airs and we have our show finale, five or seven years down the line, we knew how it was going to end the first season, that’s the way Jonah and J.J. Abrams operate. They’re making sure all the ducks are in the row."

This certainly lends more credence to the theory that HBO is setting up Westworld to be their standard bearer in science fiction and fantasy drama after Game of Thrones wraps up.

It’s far too early to tell whether Westworld will end up being the kind of tremendous success that Game of Thrones is, but the reception of the show’s first episode is a good sign. When you put together critical acclaim, 3.3 million viewers, a huge budget, and J.J. Abrams as producer though it’s hard to not bet on Westworld. HBO might have had trouble with Vinyl, but Westworld already appears to be on better ground.

For us it’s hard not to be excited thinking about just where six seasons of Westworld might take us, when everything is a fantasy even the sky isn’t a limit right?
