Game of Thrones’ Neil Marshall To Direct Westworld Episode 3

Neil Marshall who directed the Game of Thrones episodes “Blackwater” and “The Watchers on the Wall” is the director of the third episode of Westworld.

Neil Marshall directed two of the most epic and impressive Game of Thrones episodes, and not his first Westworld directorial effort is set to premiere on October 16th.

For Game of Thrones Marshall directed “Blackwater”, which was focused on Stannis’ army attacking Kings Landing, and “Watchers on the Wall” which was the battle between the Night’s Watch and the Wildlings. Both of those Game of Thrones episodes revolve around large epic battles, but does that mean Marshall’s Westworld episode will be equally epic?

If you’re thinking episode of Westworld might have a big epic battle, we doubt it. Wesworld is certainly going to have plenty of action, but the kinds of battles seen in “Blackwater” and “Watchers on the Wall” were crescendos for seasons of development. Westworld just won’t have had that kind of time to develop by episode three.

That of course doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of action, there certainly will be, but it is probably going to be more cerebral at this early stage of the show. James Marsden has already let it slip that HBO plans to have at least five or six seasons of Westworld after all.

Westworld is also just a very different show than Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones is full of twists and intrigue, but just from episode one it’s clear that misdirection and fooling the audience are going to be Westwood’s modus operandi.
