With Season 7 filming underway, reports are leaking out that new actors are being brought aboard Game of Thrones. Unlike the big headliner casting of Jim Broadbent, these are lesser known actors who will most likely be filling smaller roles.

According to Watchers on the Wall, a pair of British men have been added to this year’s roster. Both are series regulars on the BBC, and probably won’t be all that familiar to US audiences.

In one corner, we have Paul Ward, probably the more recognizable of the two actors. He was most recently seen in Vikings in a minor role, and before that played another bit part in the cult hit Penny Dreadful. Looking over the list of major roles being cast this season, it’s a bit hard to imagine him in any of them, except maybe that of the City Guard? But that role doesn’t film until mid-October, and supposedly, he’s already filmed his scenes. There’s a good chance this is one not on the list. Personally, I think he looks like someone you’d see wandering about the Citadel.

In the other corner, the potentially slightly larger role of “Koner” has gone to Joseph Quinn. Now, of course we have no idea who “Koner” is. It might be a three-line role that exists solely so The Hound can kill him. But unlike Ward, who is a bit part actor on TV, Quinn has actually had a role as a series regular, as Arthur Havisham in last year’s Dickensian. (Yes, that Arthur Havisham, Amelia’s half brother from Dickens’ Great Expectations.)

As to who he’s playing, this might be our Gate Guard. “His character is a “Confident, characterful, straight-talking Northern lad with a great face to play across a very excellent series of scenes.” He needs to have “wit, timing, and charisma.” He’ll film between mid-October and mid-November.” The other possibility is the handsome “Young Lord,” but that role supposedly filmed in late September. Unlike Ward, we have no idea if Quinn has filmed yet, so it could be either.

More casting news as it turns up. Game of Thrones filming is currently underway in Ireland and Spain for Season 7.
