Doctor Who: Writer from Classic Years to Join Revival Staff
By David Hill
With all of the nods to the classic seasons of Doctor Who, none of the writers from the early years have joined the revival. That is about to change.
Over the past few years, we have seen more than a few nods to the classic era of Doctor Who. Wardrobe choices have had little homages to past Doctors, and we have had references to the days of yore. The past is certainly alive on Doctor Who.
Yet, for all of the references to the past that have been on the show, there have still been a few things missing. One of those was that none of the writers from the classic show had come on board to write an episode for the revival. Well, according to Steven Moffat, that is about to change, as a writer from classic Who will join the staff, once again.
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
Naturally, we do not know who will be joining the show yet, but that does not mean that speculation will not run rampant. Moffat has been quite effusive in the past in praising some of those former writers. Could that praise be a hint as to who could soon be returning to the program?
Given Moffat’s love of Doctor Who and its history, the biggest surprise may be that one of those writers did not come back sooner. One has to imagine that Moffat would have been trying to bring some of them back long before now, especially with another lifelong fan in Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. Maybe, in his final months on the show, Moffat is just pulling out all the stops.
It will certainly be fascinating to find out who this writer will be. It will also be interesting to see how one of the classic writers fares with the modern incarnation of the show. Of course, a more classical episode could fit Capaldi’s Doctor quite well.
