Things are on the move. We reported earlier this morning that that certain cast members, having finished filming on the beaches of Spain’s Basque Country, are arriving in the city of Seville. Now, Irish Thrones has it that the production is cleaning up a set that went up not long in the Mourne Mountains. We’re still not sure what the production was filming there, but it blanketed a chunk of land in fake snow and then marched horses through it, like so:
Now, the fake snow is gone:
Irish Thrones notes that the production may come back when actual snow starts to fall in a few weeks, but for now, it’s outta there.
But most of the activity is still happening in Spain. Line producer Peter Welter talked to El Diario Vasco about the show’s “fantastic” time in the Basque Country. “Everything has gone smoothly,” he said. Still, he would have preferred a little more privacy. There were many photographers, both amateur and professional, on hand, and a lot of photos leaked from the set, particularly from Itzurun Beach in Zumaia.
"“It’s something that annoys [me] … If you think you are doing a favor by posting a picture on Twitter of Jon Snow recording a scene, think again. All you get is to end the illusion of millions of followers."
In an attempt to police the areas the filming location in Zumaia, the production tried to come to agreements with local landownerss. Clearly, it wasn’t entirely successful. In fact, the onlookers got so bad that the production forewent filming some some planned scenes all together. “We were forced to stop filming some scenes here in order to preserve the plot,” Welter said. Those scenes will be filmed in Northern Ireland instead.
Whatever problems the production had in the Basque Country, they’re over now, as the cast and crew pick up and head to Seville. But first, they enjoyed themselves at the Bime music festival in Bilbao, which served as the show’s home base during this stretch of filming. Here’s several team members, including Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and Kit Harington) stepping out.
Several cast members saw English electronic music duo The Chemical Brothers together.
Did Harington not enjoy the performance, or is that what he looks like when he’s happy?
Maybe he was busy trying to avoid fans with cameras.
Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) recorded part of the act:
And later, the group met the musicians themselves:
Reportedly, good times were had.
Before leaving Bilbao, Harington found time to get in a few more photos with fans.
Then it was off to the airport for the lot of them.
Next stop: Seville.
