Doctor Who in the Running for Top Fandom on FanSided

Doctor Who has been quite the popular franchise over the years. As such, it is not a surprise that the show would crack FanSided’s list of 250 most influential entertainment franchises.

In the realm of science fiction and time travel, there are few shows that have been as influential as Doctor Who. With a history that encompasses over 50 years, the show has spawned literal generations of fans. It would make sense that Doctor Who would have one of the more rabid fanbases of any television show.

That support has not gone unnoticed. In the FanSided Fandom 250, a ranking of the top 250 fandoms across sports and entertainment, Whovians have made the cut. In a recent announcement of ten of the biggest entertainment franchises, Doctor Who is right there with Star Wars, Harry Potter, and others, to vie for the top fandom in the network.

As popular as those other franchises are, and even though the contest includes sports franchises from around the globe, Doctor Who may have an advantage. While players come and go, causing the fortunes of these franchises to fluctuate, Doctor Who revels in such change. Meanwhile, with a history that dates back over 50 years, that longevity gives the program something that the other contenders do not have.

It seems safe to say that Doctor Who should perform rather well in this ranking. Even when the show was on hiatus, the fanbase kept the faith, continuing to support their favorite program and clamoring for a return. Now that the show is at the height of its popularity, who knows where Doctor Who will end up in the rankings?

Fortunately, we will not have long to find out. The final announcements as to where the different fanbases rank will come out on December 6th. That gives us just under three weeks to prove how rabid of a fanbase Whovians are, and to do what we can to earn that top mark.
