Last month, we reported on an alleged teaser from showrunner Steven Moffat on an unnamed classic Doctor Who writer returning to work on the upcoming Series Ten. Well, according to an announcement by the BBC on their blog, not only is the rumor true, but we now have a name. Yes, Rona Munro will rejoin the ranks of the folks behind the scenes after all these years, writing an episode titled ‘The Eaters of Light,’ which will be Episode Nine of this series. The cast will include Rebecca Benson, Daniel Kerr, Juwon Adedokun, Brian Vernel, Ben Hunter, Aaron Phagura, Sam Adewunmi, and Billy Matthews.
Munro wrote the 1989 Seventh Doctor story ‘Survival,’ which was not only the final serial of Season Twenty Six, but of the entirety of the classic program. You can read our review of it here. Her other writing credits include The Play on One, Casualty, Screen Two, Bumping the Odds, Aimee & Jaguar, I’m the Father, Rehab, Almost Adult, and Oranges and Sunshine.

Also last month, we reported on the Twitter leak by Matt Lucas (Nardole) regarding Jamie Mathieson returning to the writing staff. This has been confirmed by the same BBC blog post, as well. On Mathieson’s blog, he commemorates his writing of Episode Five of this series by sharing a picture of himself on the TARDIS — an image which he titles “Power Stance while Protecting Groin.” The cast for this episode includes Kieran Bew, Justin Salinger, Peter Caulfield, Mimi Ndiweni, and Karen Brayben.
Mathieson’s past credits on the show are ‘Mummy on the Orient Express,’ ‘Flatline,’ and ‘The Girl Who Died,’ the last of which he co-wrote with Moffat. His other work includes Becoming Human, Dirk Gently (2012), Being Human (United Kingdom), and Tripped.
As we previously reported, Mark Gatiss, Sarah Dollard, and Frank Cottrell-Boyce will be returning, as well, with the addition of Mike Bartlett. Moffat stated the end of last year that the list of writers for Series Ten would make our brains explode. So, how is your head?
