The cast and crew of Westworld discuss last week’s big twist

The cast and creators of Westworld talk about Ford’s blood sacrifice and how it might affect Bernard.

Last week’s episode contained the biggest twist yet from a show that loves to throw out twists. Even though many had been speculating on whether Bernard was a host or a human for months getting definitive proof came as a shock.

It was the best kind of twist though in that you felt like it might have been coming, there were some clues, but you weren’t sure until right when it happened. This of course is a credit to the writing behind Westworld. It’s easy to throw a twist out of nowhere, that’s a cheap stunt used by television shows all the time [cough]The Walking Dead[cough], but good storytelling let’s you wonder and leads you towards the twist.

To me what separates Westworld from shows like The Walking Dead is that it is dropping hints and giving you something to think about. It’s similar to the difference between a well done horror movie that creeps you out all along and one that just has a guy with a chainsaw jumping out at you.

You can’t help but feel for Bernard. Not only is Bernard just another host that Ford is using, but now he’s been forced to kill someone he cared about a great deal. Is this what finally turns Ford’s loyal Bernard against him? That’s going to be fun to find out in the next few weeks. Perhaps though Bernard, even as a host, is still very important to how Ford is able to run the park?
