Doctor Who: Complete Rebuild Rumored for Series Eleven

Oh, the rumor mill for Doctor Who churns again. But should we really believe that a complete rebuild is coming to the show after Series Ten?

Remember The Quibbler from Harry Potter? It was the wizarding world’s version of the Weekly World News, filled with fantastic stories of dubious truth. While it may not have featured the adventures of Batboy, or had articles about Elvis marrying an alien from Uranus, it served the same purpose.

Although the Weekly World News is no more, at least in print, there is plenty of entertaining journalism to be found out there. One of those sources is the Mirror, another tabloid that seems to find a way to be just plausible enough as to leave readers uncertain of a story’s validity.

As is occasionally the case, the topic of Doctor Who once again found itself upon the Mirror‘s pages. And, as occasionally happens, they have a story just plausible enough where one could see it happening. This time, they are claiming that Doctor Who will see a complete overhaul once Series Ten is over. Specifically, Pearl Mackie will be around only for this season, and Peter Capaldi will depart as well.

More from Winter is Coming

I mean, it is plausible. There was a complete shake up of the show when Steven Moffat took over, Matt Smith became the new Doctor, and we were introduced to Amy and Rory. With Chris Chibnall taking the reigns in Series Eleven, he may well want to bring in new faces to work with, giving the show a completely different feel.

But, you know, it’s the Mirror. They may as well be claiming that Texas oil tycoons are ready to flee to Luxembourg to avoid a second Great Depression, or that a crumple-horned snorkack was sighted somewhere in the Universe. As Harry Potter himself might have said, it’s a great deal of rubbish.

But sometimes, even that unexpected source has some truth. While the Mirror uses its infamous “insider/source” when claiming that Doctor Who will get a complete makeover, it is not outside the realm of possibility. Maybe we should take this claim with a grain of salt, but there is enough to make one wonder.

The Mirror may be up to its usual shenanigans, but who knows? A brand new Doctor Who could well happen.
