Jeffery Wright says fans haven’t guessed Westworld’s ending

Jeffrey Wright, who plays Bernard Lowe on Westworld, says that the fans haven’t predicted the ending to Westworld.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Jeffrey Wright talked about the many Westworld fan theories. While Wright said he was impressed with the theories he also said that no one was “batting 1.000” on what’s going on in Westworld.

"Oh yeah. Lisa and [showrunner Jonathan Nolan] are light years ahead of all of us. Much like the fans, we had theories about where the show was heading and how certain things would be resolved and none of us batted 1.000 on that — and should say that there are no fans out there who are batting 1.000 either."

This is actually really cool news if you’re a fan of Westworld. Even though I love speculating about the show and all the various fan theories, I’m thrilled to hear that no one has gotten it all completely correct yet. Westworld is so fantastic and hearing that it still has some twists in store for us is just great.

Wright also touched on many other things in the interview, including the amazing twist scene from this week’s episode. Jeffrey Wright is spot on when he says that the reason the twist had such an impact on the audience is that we had come to see Bernard as the everyman in the show. I’m not sure there are any good guys in Westworld, but Bernard was as close as you could come, before the twist.

"I glitched for a few moments, then I said to Lisa, “Cool.” It just provided meaty additional layers onto Bernard. She also described Bernard very early on as understated. He’s very quiet, he’s earnest, he’s flying under the radar, he’s an everyman. The foil of him being a host is starker because we initially perceive him to be unvarnished and straightforward. To that extent it informed the tonality of my performance — he’s steady Bernard, he’s somebody not to be second guessed."
