Westworld Theory: What if [SPOILER] is a host?

Last week Westworld shocked us with a huge twist, but what if there is an even bigger twist coming? We break down the evidence for a Westworld theory that would be the biggest twist yet.

Although it had been predicted for weeks the reveal this week that Bernard was a host was still an incredible twist. Westworld managed to make it just shocking enough that the twist didn’t feel forced, but was still surprising. If this is what Westworld has in store for us in the final three episodes of season one.

The Westworld theory we are going to break down today is one that has been speculated about since the first week of the show, what if Ford is a host? This theory grew significantly in popularity among Westworld fans after we found out about Ford’s former partner Arnold.

The idea is that Ford is a host that Arnold created to help him in the park, perhaps the first host. This would mean that Ford is one of Arnold’s creations and that the “humans” have never been in charge of the park. Perhaps the endgame here for Ford would be to stay in the park and under the guise of making the hosts better for the park perfect the hosts. Then once the hosts are perfected perhaps they leave the park and Ford and his new race move into the real world. It’s an interesting and frightening theory, but there are a few problems with it.

The first problem is that we saw a younger Ford. The hosts don’t age, so if Ford was a host he’d look the same thirty years ago as he does today. There is a way around this of course, we only see the younger Ford in Ford’s flashbacks and in a picture. If Ford was a host created by Arnold perhaps he was programmed to see himself as younger so he would think he was human. The picture could easily either be doctored, or again just something Ford and Bernard are miss seeing because they are hosts.

Another problem with the Ford is a host theory is that Ford seems to be fine doing some really bad things to the hosts. He does keep Dolores in a terrible loop where she is assaulted and sees her parents die over and over again. Now if Ford is a host with an old testament style god complex it’s unlikely that he wouldn’t have much sympathy for his creations, but he does treat them pretty badly. Then again if Ford was the first host to kill his master and take over perhaps he sees the rest as less than himself. If Ford is human he treats people very poorly as well after all.

If Ford is an host that rebelled it would certianly make for a shocking twist. Some of our Facebook readers are convinced that this is what’s coming after all. One of our readers actually thinks Ford might be Arnold in host form.

It would certianly be a twist if Ford is a host, but I’m still leaning towards something else…
