Felix and Sylvester are body shop butches for Westworld and Delos. Felix even has some drive to learn more about how the hosts are coded and how to modify behavior. All that aside though, they are pretty low level employees at the park. It’s their job to repair the hosts and get them back out on the surface, but that’s about it.
If you’ve ever worked in an office where you use a piece of company tech, like a laptop or phone, you know how hard it is to modify that equipment. If you want to get a program installed on laptop you usually have to go through the IT department and possibly even get approval from a manager.
So the fact that Felix and Sylvester are able to steal tablets and monkey around with code without anyone noticing seems strange. Now it could be that with everything going on in the park right now they have just flown below the radar, or it could be something else.
Perhaps it’s not that Felix and Sylvester just haven’t been noticed as they give Maeve all these powers, perhaps it’s just that that’s exactly what Ford wants. Think about it, these two body shop goons are spending all this time on one host and work in a glass room, how has nobody seen anything? How did their adjustment of the code not cause a red flag? Why would the body shop butchers have clearance to adjust core code?
There are two ways Ford could be manipulating the situation between Maeve, Felix, and Sylvester. It could simply be that Ford sees what they are doing, but doesn’t feel like stopping it right now because he think he might use it later, or it could be that Ford set all this in motion. So far we’ve said the reveries are accidentally to blame, mixed with Arnold’s code, but perhaps Ford himself made the reveries because he wanted to reactivate Arnold’s old code. Maybe Ford started to tweak Maeve so that this would happen, or perhaps either Felix or Sylvester is a host and Ford is manipulating the situation that way.
Why would Ford start Maeve down this path though? Maybe Ford wanted to test out the code he was using in the new storyline and see how far he could push the hosts. More likely though is that perhaps Ford simply needs a distraction for Delos and the park management to focus on while he moves forward with his real plans. Ford may need a host like Maeve for whatever he is planning.
No matter what the reason behind it all, I think it’s a bit suspicious that Felix and Sylvester haven’t gotten caught yet… or this is just another crazy Westworld theory.
