Doctor Who Fan Raising Money to Turn Merchandise Collection Into a Museum

You could help David Howe make his dream of The Doctor Who Merchandise Museum come true.

We at Doctor Who Watch have written various stories about personal collections of Doctor Who items — the world’s largest collection of Doctor Who memorabiliathe world’s largest collection of Daleks, etc. With that in mind, it has recently been reported by the Boston Standard that a fan named David Howe has started an online crowdsourcing campaign on Indiegogo in order to realize his vision of building The Doctor Who Merchandise Museum. It would be private and “open by prior arrangement for tours, viewings and open days, for groups, school trips and anyone interested.”

The 55-year-old Howe is an historian and writer who also runs Telos Publishing. Over the years, he has not only published over thirty reference books on the topic of the popular science fiction program, but also collaborated with Third Doctor Jon Pertwee on the actor’s autobiography, I Am The Doctor! Howe intends for the museum to have a library, as well as a reception area in which guests can sit on couches while drinking coffee while conversing, perusing reference books, or watching television.

Howe has been a fan of the program since the 1960s, with his collection beginning in the 1970s. From the looks of it, it may yet be the biggest collection of its kind. Not satisfied having his treasured pieces remaining in storage, his dream is to share them with the world. Two years ago, he purchased a 3,360 square foot business unit outside of Sleaford, Lincolnshire to house the sizable collection, and began the renovations. He was out of work for several months after suffering a heart attack in May 2015, which set back the plans for the museum. Still determined to see the project through, he began to raise funds. The goal for the campaign is roughly £30,000. As of the writing of this article, £4,609 has been raised by ninety seven backers on Indiegogo.
