Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill Throws His Hat Into the Ring to Play Dumbledore
By David Hill
After being an important part of Doctor Who as Rory Williams, Arthur Darvill has his sights set on joining the Harry Potter universe.
With the upcoming J.K. Rowling movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, some of our favorite characters from Harry Potter will be seen in a different light. Those characters, who had been older during the timeline of young Mr. Potter will be seen in their youth… or, at the very least, relative youthfulness.
As such, the decision of who to take on these roles is vitally important. They need the right combination of charisma and cache, particularly for the well known characters such as Albus Dumbledore. With that being the case, it is understandable that quite a few actors would be interested in these roles, including Doctor Who alumnus, Arthur Darvill.
Darvill, whose science fiction resume is well developed with Doctor Who and Legends of Tomorrow, has expressed interest in portraying a middle aged Dumbledore. Of course, virtually everyone in the acting business has put their names forward for the role, but Darvill may be one of the more interesting actors to do so.

Now that Darvill’s stature in science fiction is set, he is turning his attention to the fantasy realm. He had already mentioned an interest in playing wizards, and nothing but, when he gets older, presumably growing out a long beard of his own and not needing to use a prosthetic. Taking on the role of a young Dumbledore would be great experience for his future ambitions.
Likewise, it would make sense that, with a movie as anticipated as this one will be, particular attention is paid to casting. The stars should be out in full force for what promises to be a blockbuster, for Harry Potter fans and general fantasy lovers alike. Putting Darvill in the role of Dumbledore would only increase that star power.
