Doctor Who Series Ten: Charles Palmer and Wayne Yip Likely Directorial Additions

It has been rumored on Twitter that both Charles Palmer and Wayne Yip will be directing episodes for Series Ten of Doctor Who.

This past Sunday, we posted an article reporting that Daniel Nettheim has returned to direct for Series Ten of Doctor Who. He previously directed ‘The Zygon Invasion’ and ‘The Zygon Inversion’ for Series Nine, as well as a few episodes for the spin-off, K9. It has also recently been revealed through Twitter that Charles Palmer and Wayne Yip have likely been added to the directing staff for episodes that will air this coming year.

Palmer has been part of the Doctor Who family for quite some time, having directed the Series Three episodes ‘Smith and Jones,’ ‘The Shakespeare Code,’ ‘Human Nature,’ and ‘The Family of Blood.’ Like Nettheim, who has an uncle who acted in the show, Palmer also has family members who have done so. His father, Geoffrey Palmer, played Edward Masters in the Season Seven serial ‘Doctor Who and the Silurians,’ the Administrator of Solos in the Season Nine serial ‘The Mutants,’ and Captain Hardaker in the 2007 Christmas special ‘Voyage of the Damned.’ In addition to this, Charles’ wife, Claire Skinner, played Madge Arwell in the 2011 Christmas special ‘The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.’

Other directorial work from Palmer includes the television series Linda Green, Night & Day, Life Begins, The Ghost Squad, Vital SignsLark Rise to CandlefordAgatha Christie’s Poirot, Inspector LewisDeath in ParadiseAgatha Christie’s Marple, By Any MeansMidsomer Murders, Doc Martin, and Poldark.

Although a much more recent addition, Wayne Yip is an established member of the Doctor Who extended family. He directed ‘Detained‘ and ‘The Metaphysical Engine, or What Quill Did,’ the two most recent episodes of the newest spin-off, Class.

Other directorial work from Yip includes the television series Coming UpSecret Diary of a Call Girl (starring our very own Billie Piper), Utopia, MisfitsTatau, and Salem.
