One of the major Westworld theories circulating around the internet that we still don’t know the answer to involves Ford. Ford is Westworld’s twisted Walk Disney and much of what’s happened in the park has been part of his plan.
There has been speculation that Ford is a host since the first week of Westworld, but it has really picked up since the Bernard is modeled after Arnold reveal. So we thought we’d break down this Westworld theory for ourselves and see what we thought.
If Ford is a hosts he’s surely one of the first if not the first host. Ford was around for the development of all the other hosts, so he would have to be the original host. We know this because we’ve seen flashbacks where Ford is working on the hosts in the early days of the park. We’ve also seen a picture of Arnold, Ford, and Ford’s father… or at least Ford’s host father.
The problem is that in all those flashbacks we saw a younger Ford, and hosts don’t age. If there was a host who could age surely that would be a much more advanced model, and Ford would have to be a very early model indeed. Now all the flashbacks and memories that Ford had could just be fake memories like he’s given the hosts, perhaps Ford’s memories of the early park are his cornerstone even.
Ford also doesn’t seem to think very much of humanity; from Ford’s insistence that humanity can’t evolve any further to his telling Bernard never to trust humans. On the other hand he did say to Bernard that he warned him never to trust “us.” That “us” makes it sound like Ford is human.
Ford could be a host spending his time developing all the other hosts so that they could one day go free, but it’s probably more likely that he’s human and has other plans entirely. If Ford is a host is very likely that he doesn’t know he is one, of course that would lead to a whole other ending to season one.
