Westworld Theory: If [SPOILER] Killed Arnold

In the last episode of Westworld we found out who killed Arnold, this Westworld theory explores the possible repercussions of that reveal.

In last night’s episode of Westworld we found out that Dolores killed Arnold. This of course could be a lie or a false memory, but Dolores thinks she killed Arnold, so we are going to assume that’s true for now. If Dolores did kill Arnold then why was she not decommissioned and set to cold storage or destroyed?

The man in black who of course is probably William gets whatever he wants, because he’s on the Delos board. So it is possible that the man in black’s influence has kept Dolores in the park even though she killed Arnold. There’s a problem with this theory though, Dolores killed Arnold before William ever entered the park.

This means Dolores wasn’t destroyed or sent to cold storage due to Ford. Ford is the only one with that kind of authority, and he’s the only one who has been in the park since Arnold was killed. The obvious reason for Ford to keep Dolores around would be to try to figure out how she went wrong, how she killed Arnold, but 35 years is a long time to investigate that.

I think Ford is keeping Dolores in the park as some kind of punishment. Dolores’ loop of getting assaulted and watching her parents and Teddy get killed night after night is particularly horrible, even for hosts. Remember when Dolores asked Ford if they were very old friends? Ford was squeezing Dolores hand so much it hurt her.

There are a lot of theories out there about Ford killing Arnold because he was jealous and wanted the park to go on… but maybe Ford’s explanation is true and through Dolores Arnold did commit suicide. Perhaps Dolores killing him was Arnold’s way of making sure the park shut down. So not only is Ford out to stop that from ever happening, he’s blaming Dolores for the death of his friend.
