Everyone worries about not being able to live up to expectations, even Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi. In fact, he worries that he will disappoint his fans when he meets them.
Everyone gets excited to meet their heroes. It is a chance to finally interact, even if for a few seconds, with someone who has made a positive impact upon one’s life. Naturally, it is a time of nerves, and being concerned that one will say or do the wrong thing in those moments. And then, when it is over, it seems like that time was not long enough.
Those of us who are meeting these celebrities are not the only ones who get a case of the nerves. Sometimes, our idols have feelings that mirror ours, worrying that they will not make the impression that one expects. At least, that is the case with Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi, who worries that he will disappoint his fans when he meets them.
"“Some people do get very excited when they meet you and I feel vaguely confused by that because I don’t think I’m very exciting – I get into a panic because I think I mustn’t disappoint them,” Capaldi said. “Doctor Who is exciting, but I’m not. I don’t know what to do. I can’t be myself because that will disappoint them.”"

Considering the way that Capaldi goes out of his way for the fans of Doctor Who, it is hard to imagine that he would disappoint. He truly delights in his role, spending as much time as he can with the fans. If he knows that one of them is going through a difficult time, he does what he can to make their day a little better.
Given how well the character suits the actor, and how he connects with the fanbase, one would think that he approaches such encounters with ease. If anything, Capaldi may well put too much pressure on himself to be everything that the fans expect him to be, instead of being himself. And his self, after all, is what makes him the Doctor that he is.
Don’t worry, Peter. You are fantastic just the way you are and your fans love you for it.
