Peter Capaldi: Doctor Who Series Ten to Have “Romans”

The moment we have all been waiting for with the Twelfth Doctor may finally be coming on Doctor Who. The Doctor could come face to face with himself in Series Ten.

Ever since Peter Capaldi was announced as the Twelfth Doctor, fans have been wanting to see him come face to face with himself. A trek back to Roman times, where he could potentially meet with Caecilius, would be exactly what the Doctor ordered. And when it was established in Doctor Who canon that he selected that face to remind himself that he saved Caecilius’ family in Pompeii, the fans’ desire to see them meet was intensified.

That meeting may happen in Series Ten. In a recent interview, Capaldi mentioned several different plot details, mentioning Romans, robots, and serpents.

Romans, eh?

Now, it is fairly safe to assume that he means ancient Romans. Naturally, the potential for Capaldi to be roaming around the streets of Rome will draw interest. Even without Caecilius being a part of an episode, the Roman era was a very interesting place. With the turmoil from insane despots, and the ongoing conquests of other lands, Rome could be quite the hotbed of stories involving the Doctor.

It would also be interesting for the Doctor to be mistaken as Caecilius, vice versa, or both. As they have the same face, the potential for mistaken identity is high. Given the number of enemies that the Doctor has made through the years, he may need to save his Roman friend once again. Additionally or instead, perhaps, it is time for Caecilius to return the favor.

This is a story that has been years in the making, ever since Peter Capaldi took on the role of the Doctor. We have wanted to see him meet Caecilius once again, just to see how they react to seeing one another. And maybe seeing the person he saved in front of him instead of in the mirror will help the Doctor to become a more “human” individual.

From the sounds of it, the Doctor may be going back to Rome. Maybe he will see a familiar face there. And, who knows? Perhaps he will encounter a certain centurion, as well.
