Vote for Game of Thrones to win Best Drama at the National Television Awards

It’s a new year and a new round of entertainment awards, as the National Television Awards are getting underway across the pond. The National Television Awards, which center on UK TV, are unique in that the UK viewing public gets to vote on them. This year, Game of Thrones is on the list for Best Drama, the only US-based show to make the shortlist. The nominees are:

The BBC’s The Night Manager was a monster hit across the pond, although it didn’t do too well here in the US, despite starring Tom Hiddleston, one half of the short-lived Hiddleswift couple. (Although personally I preferred the nickname SWOKI.)

Other competition include the never-seems-to-go-away BBC show Casualty, ITV’s Cold Feet, and Happy Valley, which includes the bizarre sight of Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter movies) as a serial killer.

Voting runs until 12 noon on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. The awards program itself airs that evening on ITV, hosted by Dermot O’Leary. Fans can vote at the National Television Awards website, at Digital Spy, or by calling 0905 647 2017. (Per Digital Spy, “Calls cost 25p per minute, plus your network access charge, and should last no longer than seven minutes.”)

Perhaps the voting British public can make up for what could be a snubbing at the Golden Globes this coming weekend. But like at the Golden Globes, Game of Thrones is only nominated for Best Drama at the National Television Awards—no cast members are up for any acting honors.

This is clearly a travesty. We can all agree that if Kit Harington were nominated, he and his hair would surely crush all comers. Except perhaps Aidan Turner, whose hair in Poldark represents his only real competition. Perhaps they can have a hair off? A girl can dream.
