Mashups: Game of Thrones meets Super Mario, Westworld, and The Witcher

facebooktwitterreddit

Game of Thrones and mashups mash up so well—they’re like peas and carrots, peanut butter and jelly, or the Starks and Winterfell. We’ve seen the show mashed up with Star WarsThe Walking Dead, and more—all you have to do is hit YouTube and search Game of Thrones mashups and a bounty of videos will appear.

Take this one from Eponases, who filmed progress on a delightful Super Mario-themed Game of Thrones cross-stitch that took over a year to make. Behold: Westeros rendered in the style of Super Mario World.

I love all the detailing—note that Mario ghosts are hovering over the Haunted Forest north of the Wall, that there’s a red wierwood tree at Winterfell, the Iron Islands have those little squid enemies on them (for krakens), and more. You’re also gotta love the giant Bowser head standing in for Casterly Rock and the fire flower at Highgarden. This is beautiful.

Next, Shahan Reviews mashes up Game of Thrones with Westworld in a fun video with a lot to unpack. Explore the loop of Jon Snow, a beleaguered host in Westeros World. Or, if you haven’t watched Westworld and don’t know what’s going on, watch the Super Mario video again.

This video is worth watching a few times just to get all the neat pieces of information Shahan puts in.

Jon Snow — Host

I love this video because of the hilarious detail. Can you imagine Samwell Tarly repurposed as Aegon the Conqueror? Or Dolores Edd as a dangerous guest to be approached using extreme caution, much like the Man in Black in Westworld?

By the by, Shahan Reviews also does a nice western style version of the Tower of Joy scene that you should check out.

Finally, Nexus community member KNGR made a mod for CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, blanketing the videogame landscape in snow. The name of the mod? Winter is Coming.

The Witcher games star a gentleman named Geralt, but in the mod, it’s easy to imagine him as a man of the Night’s Watch braving the frozen north.
