Game of Thrones dominates Visual Effects Society award nominations

The award nominations for Game of Thrones Season 6 continue to pour in. The latest? The Visual Effects Society, which “recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games” has nominated Game of Thrones for 11 awards, more than any other show or movie.


Like at other awards shows, Game of Thrones will face stiff competition—other prominent nominees include Stranger Things and fellow HBO drama Westworld. In several categories, Game of Thrones is competing with itself, as well as against videogames.

The 15th Annual VES Awards will be announced at a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 7th.

If by some miracle Thrones is shut out at the Visual Effects Society, there will always be the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS) awards. As the name implies, these awards honor “make-up artists and hair stylists outstanding achievements in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater.” Game of Thrones picked up three nominations.
