Doctor Who has had some great episodes but none that touch on the brilliance that is “Vincent and the Doctor” from season 5.
“Vincent and the Doctor” is arguably one of Moffat’s best episodes. Yes, “Blink” is the episode that made fans fall in love with his work but there is just something so amazing about the episode featuring Vincent Van Gogh.
For those who haven’t seen it, this particular episode of Doctor Who follows the eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond going back in time to meet the famous painter. There, they discover he is plagued by a creature that only he can seemingly see.
The Doctor and Amy help Vincent through his mental illness and try and help get the creature back home. Unfortunately they do not succeed but it all leads to one of the greatest television moments of maybe all time. Most times on Doctor Who, the Doctor is very much against changing the past. But he does something for Vincent that could have alerted reality. It sadly didn’t but the intent behind it still was a new one for the Doctor.
Vincent doesn’t believe is work is valued. This much is true in real life and he very famously killed himself because of it. But in Doctor Who, Amy and the Doctor take Vincent to the Musée d’Orsay to show Vincent how much we love his work today.
And if you have a dry tear after this scene, we can all assume you have no heart.

So while the arguments about Moffat still hold true, we can thank him for having Richard Curtis write this amazing episode. It is still one of the greatest in the history of Doctor Who and still, even after all this time, we all still cry over it.
