Doctor Who had a Quote about Alternative Facts and it’s Too Real

Doctor Who seems to predict the future once more with the resurfacing of a quote from the Fourth Doctor about Alternative Facts.

Alternative Facts is making headlines this week because of Kellyanne Conway. The leader of Donald Trump’s campaign towards the White House called Sean Spicer’s lies ‘alternative facts’ and everyone is jumping on the meme bandwagon.

So how does this relate back to Doctor Who? Well, fans are connecting Kellyanne’s message to one that the Fourth Doctor gave his companion Leela. In the episode, he warned Leela about the dangers of shifting facts to fit their views.

Better yet, the Doctor warned against altering facts to fit their views. Get it? The Fourth Doctor probably traveled to 2017 and saw Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer blatantly lying on television and probably thought to himself “hmm, maybe that’s not a good idea”.

“You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common,” the Doctor said. “They don’t alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views.”

The episode features the Doctor making peace between two warring tribes (the Sevateem and the Tesh). In the episode, he has to help Leela break free from a trance and teaches the audience that we all can be entranced by people, we just have to remember to break free.

Now, we know very well that the Doctor didn’t really come to 2017 and see what’s happening so that means that this is coming that has been around for a pretty long time. Maybe we should show Kellyanne this episode of classic Doctor Who?
