Why the War Doctor Was an Amazing Addition to the Doctor Who Franchise

Doctor Who has a whole backlog of lore that makes fan’s heads spin but with the War Doctor, his storyline makes him one of the best.

Ever since the rebirth of Doctor Who, fans have longed to know what happened from the 8th Doctor to the 9th. When we got the 50th anniversary special, we learned a bit more of the time between them. Granted, we it only happened because Eccleston didn’t want to come back but it gave us an interesting story.

For those who haven’t seen it (honestly, what are you waiting for?), the 50th Anniversary special featured 3 different versions of the Doctor. (Well, Tom Baker made an appearance but he wasn’t playing the Doctor so we don’t count him.) There was Ten (David Tennant), Eleven (Matt Smith), and the War Doctor (John Hurt).

During the episode, we learned that the War Doctor was a reincarnation of the Doctor during the war between the Time Lords and the Daleks. We learned of the struggle and decision he had to make to try and end the war and we watched all three of the Doctors saved Gallifrey.

John Hurt did an amazing job playing the War Doctor but, unfortunately, we will not be seeing him any longer. The actor passed away from his battle with cancer and he will surely be missed by fans.

We just wish there was some way we could’ve had more of the War Doctor. It would have been legendary.

We wish the War Doctor could have had more of a story told to the audience but we can at least come up with our own theories on the reincarnation! Rest in peace, John. You were every Whovian’s dream!
