Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones cast loses at Screen Actors Guild Awards
By Dan Selcke
Game of Thrones was nominated for three statutes at tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, and while it didn’t win all of them, it did win…one.
Here are the returns:
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series
- Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us
- Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
- John Lithgow, The Crown (WINNER)
- Rami Malek, Mr. Robot
- Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
It was always gonna be tough to defeat John Lithgow in this category. His performance as Winston Churchill in Season 1 of The Crown made a lot of waves, and if you watched it, he’s not likely to come back. Best to honor his work now.
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
- The Crown
- Downton Abbey
- Game of Thrones
- Stranger Things (WINNER)
- Westworld
This category was a bit up in the air, but the voters ended up going with the kid-heavy cast of Netflix’s Stranger Things. Well, they were very charming.
Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series
- Game of Thrones (WINNER)
- Marvel’s Daredevil
- Marvel’s Luke Cage
- The Walking Dead
- Westworld
Game of Thrones has never lost this award and it’s not about to start now.
Conversely, the show has never won the Outstanding Performance in an Ensemble award, although it’s been nominated for every season except its second. Peter Dinklage has also been nominated before. This latest loss is his fourth. He’s the only actor from the show to be nominated in an individual category.
Will Game of Thrones get more love from the Screen Actors Guild in the future? Look for the statues to start piling up after the show’s final season.
