Doctor Who Could Use CGI To Bring Back Doctors From The Dead

Future Doctor Who episodes could bring past Doctors from the dead using the same CGI technology as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

This may be showrunner Steven Moffat’s last season of Doctor Who, but he’s got big plans for the new episodes. He told Doctor Who Magazine that he is exploring ways to bring back past doctors from the dead.

If you’ve ever longed to have all the doctors in one place, you might be in luck for season 10. Moffat responded to a fan question about the return of previous doctors,  William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee.

He replied, “Well, like every other Doctor Who fan, that was my first thought [upon seeing Rogue One]. But, you know, word on Media Street is that Star Wars might have a tiny edge on us, budget-wise.”

He went on to say, “I’m fairly sure those are quite expensive movies and possibly that sort of thing might be a bit beyond us for now. More importantly: will the software ever exist that can recreate the comic timing of Patrick Troughton?”

As you can see, Moffat admits this might be a little ambitious. But like the writer and showrunner, we’re hopeful he can make it work. With the technology available, all our fan fic dreams could come true in a multi-Doctor story line that, like the Time Lord himself, defies the boundaries of time and space.

Moffat also hinted that fans might not have seen the last of fan favorite River Song. He responded to another fan question with, “Well, yes, that does seem like the end to me. Except, of course, it isn’t, and can’t be. There’s always the chance that River will show up again, at some other point in her timeline, with a stolen camel, seven more husbands, and a nuclear submarine.”

Fans have been speculating about if and when she’ll return since her departure in the 2015 Christmas special.
