The rumors about cameos on Game of Thrones season 7 have been flying left and right this year. At one point, UFC champion Conor McGregor was rumored to be playing one of Euron Greyjoy’s shipmates, but he denied that rumor pretty unequivocally. Then, fansite Watchers on the Wall reported that British indie rock band Bastille would make a cameo appearance. Reportedly, they were going to be dressed as wildling and appear in a the season 7 finale. The band members had been given a set tour, and there’s a long history of bands appearing on the show, so it was easy to believe.

Now, the band members have denied it, with frontman Dan Smith calling their presence on set “just a studio tour.” Watch the video interview for yourself below.

"We’ll see. We’ll see. When the episodes come out and we’re nowhere near them it’ll be like a fart in the wind. But yeah, we’re big fans of the show."

Smith isn’t lying when he says he and his bandmates are fans of the show. Sophie Turner even appears in the video for their song “Oblivion.”

Now for the conspiracy question: is Smith telling the truth? Information from Watchers is usually pretty reliable, and it was pretty specific in this case. I wish I didn’t feel the need to second-guess statements directly from the mouths of the people at the center of these rumors, but then I remember that Game of Thrones mandated that cast and crew members lie about Jon Snow’s resurrection for the better part of a year, and suddenly I can’t trust anything.

What do you guys think? Does Bastille protest too much?
