Neil Gaiman Suggests Sue Perkins to take on the Thirteenth Doctor

Doctor Who writer Neil Gaiman has put in his two cents on who he thinks should be the next Doctor and let me tell you, it’s an interesting one.

On the BBC Radio 5 today, Neil Gaiman put his vote in the ring on who should be the next Doctor. It just wasn’t who you’d think he’d pick. As Neil suggested comedian and The Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins.

The actress, writer, and broadcaster is an interesting choice no less. With most people throwing in big name celebrities, this is one of the few that makes sense. When it comes to Doctor Who, you have to remember that these big actors have to dedicate months of their time to the television show.

With Sue, she already knows what a television schedule is like and she’s pretty awesome. With suggestions like Tilda Swinton, you know you’re just batting away in the dark to try and get her on the show. Sue Perkins is amazing, she’s funny, and she’s probably easily attainable for the part.

Gaiman also suggested a few other bigger names. Like Gillian Anderson and Helen Mirren. But again, they’re not as logical as someone like Sue is. Look at the careers of all the recent Doctors before. Most were either unknown or famous but willing and able to do a television program.

With Sue (and even Gillian to a lesser extent), the probability that she’d be willing to take on the role is relatively high. Someone like Helen Mirren wanted a woman Doctor but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’d be willing to make that time commitment.

We’ll have to wait and see who Chris Chibnall chooses but this suggest is pretty awesome to us!
