“Goodbye Brother”

Six seasons, and Djawadi still may not have written a more plaintive tune than “Goodbye Brother.” Variations on this song have played during many important moments for the Stark family and its retainers, from Jon leaving Bran’s bedside in the second episode all the way to Hodor holding the door in season 6. It’s the theme most guaranteed to bring a tear to a fan’s eye.

The Concert Experience gives it loving treatment. In perhaps the most evocative moment of the show, a violinist stands on a dais below bands on concentric video screens, all of them alive with images of white wood and red leaves. Then a translucent sheet descends over the soloist so it looks like she’s playing from inside a weirwood tree. To top it off, red petals waft through the air.

It’s a haunting moment, and one of the most beautiful from the concert.
